Sad news. Lou Reed has passed away, cause of death unknown. The one song he was most famous for, “Walk on the Wild Side” revealed a lot in its time. We were becoming bolder, with more information on the once hush hush topics. Let’s face it, back then we had a war going on and not just in the US with the hippie culture and the drugs and such. The War in Vietnam was raging on.
Mr. Reed was ahead of most, letting us know more about ourselves and the people around us. Not everyone was who they appeared to be. Guess I should also credit the Kinks with their song, “Lola”, too. Lou’s song was more descriptive, describing individuals who were secretly struggling with their own identities but willing to accept themselves as they were. Gay men and women, cross dressers, and more, just regular people afraid to come out in the open at a time when it still was not acceptable.
I always thought his song was lighthearted in a way. Didn’t preach, just asked if taking a risk was okay, to be true to oneself. Of course now it’s just considered no big deal, no secrets are kept anymore. We know and we live on.
Walk on the wild side where you rest, Lou.
Winter has arrived, it bypassed Fall with its cold temperatures and freeze warnings. No mildly cool temps to enjoy along with the deep colors of rust, red, and gold. The sun is out and is deceiving. It lures one into thinking the day is warm, but in reality sweatshirt weather. No short sleeves for now. They will have to rest up for next spring.
We will now cover ourselves in heavy coats, gloves, and scarves. Maybe some boots to walk in the snow when it arrives. Cold temperatures bring out the fireplaces that burn in the evenings, hayrides and bonfires. Warm fruity cider and decadent hot chocolate with marshmallows are the new smells of the season.
Costumes will be parading on October 31, with children pretending to be something else for a day. Asking for treats and sharing the bounty later.
time for warm pajamas, house shoes and thick socks. Blankets are brought out of hibernation, ready to be tossed on a bed or couch. Bowls of hot soup, crackers and toasted cheese await our attendance at the dinner table. Yeah, it’s more like winter than fall, but that’s the way the seasons are, they argue over who will stay and who will go. Guess winter is the victor this time with fall hanging on by the colors. Here are some pictures I took today.
Deception, beating around the bush, and not trusting everyone you meet or already know. And I still want to read more! Martyr’s Fire is book three of the Merlin’s Immortals series, and in this one Thomas is trying to regain the kingdom of Magnus that has overtaken by some slick talking Druids. They have convinced the citizens that they are all powerful and can produce miracles, yeah whatever dude. It’s all tricks and illusions, but unfortunately the people buy into. Geesh.
Thomas is being watched over by two Immortals who still remain a mystery to him. Katherine and Hawkwood are trying to determine if Thomas is really a good guy or if he’s really out to cause trouble. The poor guy is struggling between wanting to believe these two are for real or if they are counterfeit. Mr. Brouwer writes an excellent follow up to the first and second books, The Orphan King and Fortress of Mist. You see Thomas is still learning to have faith and to trust those who have his best interest at heart.
Faith, trust, and loyalty are the main themes in the series and I can’t wait to read more.
I received this free copy in exchange for reviewing it.

Read Chapter One:
Just want to say ENOUGH!! Will the real adults in Washington, DC please stand up and come to order? Have they not learned how to work together and gasp, compromise? Do they even care about the thousands of citizens affected by their irrational behavior? Probably not. I did read with a bit of a chuckle that our President hasn’t been able to play a round of golf or celebrate his weeding anniversary. Boo Hoo. Personally, I don’t think the parties involved with this mess called a shutdown should even be paid.
We elect on the basis of ability to the do job that they running for with the hopes they will come through on promises made during the campaign. Um, sure. Looking like we made some serious mistakes. Now maybe there is hope as some furloughed employees are coming back to work. Downside is they won’t see their pay until after this is over. What a rip.
Do the Democrats and Republicans even pay attention to what we the voters think of them? I mean they are punishing individuals who have no say in the debates that are going on. We are their hostages, at least those who work for the government. All I can say is, Democrats go in one corner, nose to the wall, and Republicans to the other. And don’t talk to one another until you can be civil! Understand? Punishment starts now.
