God Distorted- A Review

GodDistortedHow your physical dad treated you can actually affect your relationship with God. Wow! I had no idea that was possible but it makes sense. In John Bishop’s book, God Distorted, he discusses the connection between how we believe we should be treated by our heavenly father from the experience with our earthly fathers.
Mr. Bishop uses his own life as an example. His biological father passed away when he little and then he when his mother remarried, well, there was abuse and humiliation. John felt worthless and unloved, so he took his anger out on everyone else. He could not understand how he could be abandoned and unloved. He believed God didn’t care for him either.
Other real life stories of abuse are mentioned in the book but there is also healing with those horrific experiences. The victims rise above the trauma and realize that it doesn’t matter what happened in the past, God’s taken of that. On the cross and He doesn’t care about that. Our victimizers don’t define us. Our mistakes don’t say who we really are.
Really what the book says is that God is waiting to take you by the hand and say, “Let’s start all over. Come, on, it’s quite a ride.” God loves us with condition, without restriction. I like that, no pressure, just breathe and enjoy his company. Awesome.
